I'm really excited because I rediscovered one of my favorite painters from high school. Her work just makes me so happy. I love how she can take such boring objects and inject so much light, color, and energy into them. I REALLY need to start painting again soon.
I am secretly (or not so secretly) a hipster and proud! All of this stuff is hysterical and so true. I think this video is one of the funniest things I've seen in foreverrrrrr.
What a wonderful idea for an illustration series. In this blog by illustrator Sophie Blackall she captures the poetic small moments found in the Missed Connections section. Wouldn't that be such a cute way to fall in love?
So, I finally gave into all the hype and went to see Avatar. And found that the hype....was hype. I felt like Avatar was more of an experience than a great movie. I believe most of the people who miss out on seeing it in 3D won't be nearly as crazy about it. Stunning visuals and innovative technology aside the plot is not very developed and extremely unoriginal. It even came off as somewhat preachy to me. If your making a movie about aliens then I think they should be like nothing we've ever imagined before and their cultures shouldn't so closely mimic that of Native Americans or any indigenous society on earth for that matter. Why did the aliens have to walk on two legs, wear war paint, say prayers over a kill, and ride things that looked like horses? And why in "Aywa's" name did they set the sub-titles in PAPYRUS?
Although I was entertainedthis pretty much sums up my feelings about Avatar/Pocahontas/Ferngully/Dances With Wolves etc etc :
It's funny that this is finally appearing in the news now. I did a design project on it junior year of college (2007). It's a scary thing to think about especially because it's self-induced. It's going to change the whole social structure of a nation. I guess when it comes to mother nature you should probably leave well enough alone.
New life goal: visit all the places on this list. I have number one checked off already and it was truly something I will never forget. This picture does it zero justice so I can only imagine what the other places are like.
